that each license card issued clearly indicate which types or classes of vehicles a person may lawfully drive . In the absence of such an indication , the holder of that license , owners of vehicles , and police officers in the same or another state would be unable to determine which vehicles may be lawfully operated .

In many respects , however , the most significant change in the 1968 Code is the requirement that all licensed drivers be reexamined upon renewing their licenses . As revised in 1968 , UVC 6 โ€“ 115 pro vides :

a . Every driver ' s license shall expire on the licensee ' s birth date in the ( second , third , fourth ) year following the issuance of such license . Every such license shall be renewable on or before its expiration upon application , payment of the required fee , and satisfactory completion of the examination required or authorized by subsection ( b ) .

b . The department shall require every person applying for re newal of a driver ' s license to take and successfully pass a test of his eyesight and knowledge of the traffic laws of this state . The depart ment may require any applicant to take and successfully pass such additional tests as the department may find reasonably necessary to determine his qualification according to the type or general class of license applied for and such examination may include any or all of the other tests required or authorized upon original application by ยง 6 โ€“ 110 .

c . The department may defer the expiration of the license of a licensee who is on active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States for a period not in excess of ( here insert maximum period authorized ) years , upon such terms and conditions as it may pre scribe . The department may similarly defer the expiration of the license of the spouse or dependent son or daughter of such service man , if such person is residing with the serviceman .

Other changes include :

1 . The addition of provisions to regulate commercial driving schools and their instructors .

2 . A new section to provide for a medical advisory board with two functions : establishing medical standards for licensing drivers and review ing individual cases to assist in determining whether a particular individual is capable of driving safely .

3 . The " one license concept โ€ was broadened .
